A meltdown

WARNING: this post may contain graphic details of naughty naughty children (one to be exact)

I just though I should warn you that this blog entry is not the normal sappy cutsie story of obedient disciplined children. Since I use this blog as somewhat of a journal I figured I should post the good and the bad. Yesterday was definitely the bad.

It started out fine with ideas of a "Kids" day since it was, after all, the first day of spring break. The plan was to get ready and head to the mall to meet a friend for lunch and let the kids play in the play area. All was going as planned. We met said friend and sat down to a nutritious lunch of hot dog on a stick and panda express. Lunch went well.

Now on to the playland. All was going as planned. The kids were running and playing and said friend and I were carrying on casual conversation. After a good amount of playtime she mentioned the time and decided she better head toward home. We gave the kids their 5 minute warning, and got their shoes ready. Here comes Abby with full cooperation in mind. Here comes Tyler with full cooperation in mind. There goes Paige yelling, I DON'T WANT TO GO HOME! No panicking yet. I am used to this kind of reaction from her. She finally came, but was crying the whole time I put on her shoes. I tried reasoning calmly. She had apparantly passed the point where this was going to work. Crying turned to screaming. Screaming turned to repetitive screaming, " I STILL WANT TO PLAY! I STILL WANT TO PLAY! I STILL WANT TO PLAY!" Screaming led to planting her feet firmly outside the play area. She is big. I can't carry her. I'm at a loss and patience is running low. Meanwhile, the whole playland crew is staring at us . . . like their angel children have never stepped out of line. (Mostly they were probably noticing the pregnant state that I'm in and wondering why I chose to further reproduce with such a child already on hand. I have to admit, I was thinking the same thing. )

I proceed to drag her from the playland halfway through the mall to the entrance where cute little two-year-old Abby is watching Paige with eyes wide open. Then, as I thought we were in the clear with the entrance in full view, Abby, to my horror, starts copying Paige. It was the last straw for me. Poor little Abby may now be permanently corrupt. I'm so sorry. I continued to drag Paige through the parking lot to the car with barely a goodbye to my dear friend. This is where it gets graphic.

I LOST IT! I remember planting her in her seat and roughly strapping her in. I got in and shut my door and then the storm began! I don't think I've ever yelled like that before. I have to admit, I'm ashamed. Mothers aren't supposed to act like that. We're supposed to remain calm and patient at all times. I vaguely remember the drive home while Paige was bawling and I was bawling, and Tyler was surely afraid to move a muscle. She went straight to her room and I went straight to mine. Later we apologized. She really is sweet after a nap has taken off the edge.

I just thought you all should know that days are sometimes bad. I'm still excited to have another girl.

Sorry you had such a rough time! I love your blog! Rocky Point looks so fun. We were thinking of going down there sometime. Maybe we can get together sometime this week and let the kids play!

I'm so glad to hear other kids are the same as mine. And, I'm sad to say, that I'm thankful to hear of your reaction! I've done the same thing.

I thought Paige was perfect!!! I'm so glad to hear that she isn't all the time...because she had all of us fooled. You'll be glad you typed that out to show her one day when she's stuggling with one of her own. He he!

Sorry, I had to laugh because I've been in that same situation...what's the right answer? I have no clue. Oh, I think the right answer is a nap for everyone, but I still don't know how to get from point A (the playground) to point B (bed). Let me know if you ever figure it out.

I'm sorry that you had to have a rough experience so the rest of us could smile. Oh, the adventures of motherhood. I'm bracing myself for those "bad" days to come.

Kayleen, I hate to admit, but your day sounds an aweful lot like my day! The good thing is that you wanted until you were in the car to get after your kids! I am so afraid to get after my kids in public because everyone looks at you like you are beating your kids and who knows when someone is going to call CPS if you even TOUCH them or yell at them! Yikes, give me a call if you need a night out for ice cream!

As much as I hate to say this, I am going to. I'm glad. No, I'm not glad that this happened to you, but I am glad that I am not the only one that has things like this happen that leave me mortified!

Ohhhhh, Kayleen!!! I am loving reading this. I love that we are all human and that as much as we love our kids, they can REALLY push us to our limits sometimes. And it is so ironic because I honestly had a day SO incredibly similar to this yesterday with my Tyler and I don't know if I have ever been that flat out MAD at him before. It was ugly, but we all got over it. Anyways, thank you for being REAL! :) I needed to read that!!

I am laughing sooooo hard. We had a moment like that with Makayla in Best Buy the other day. Luckily she's still small enough I can pick her up and get OUT of there! Thanks for making us all feel better by realizing other parents go through the same things.

Hey, thought I'd check out your blog today. What the heck, you're prego and didn't even tell me! A heartfelt congratulations to both of you! You guys make cute babies even if they sometimes pull some attitude on you!

I think you're confused. That's how Hannah acted when I tried to make her leave the mall play area...

Once, when I was pregnant with Sam, as I was leaving an OBGYN visit Hannah flipped out about not getting to press the elevator button. Writhing in the floor screaming. I'm 7 months and can't pick her up- so I just stood there, trying not to cry. Several sympathetic mom's expressed their concern.

So I've been reading your blogs for the past ten minutes and was so happy when I got to this post! You have no idea how relieved I was when I found out that your kids are NORMAL.

*Sorry about your rough day.
