the cone of shame

Ferb has undergone "the procedure." Bob Barker would be proud.

Paige says that she feels bad for him because he has to wear "the cone of shame."

Morgan says that he doesn't like that hat.

He gets it off on Friday.

Friday is the day when he will be able to scratch his ears again and fit underneath the table through the chairs.

I'm sure he'll feel like a new pup.

Apothecary Media Console Finished!

We've been working on another one of Ana White's amazing plans. The Apothecary Media Console. I originally wanted it in green, but after the amount of work that I forsaw with the painting, I went with a safe antique white. I don't regret it. It's a lot easier to change accessories than to repaint a massive piece like this.

Shane modified it to fit our needs. It's longer than Ana's plan and the center cubby in the top is wider to accomodate a sound bar in the future. Also, we went with 4 cupboard all the way across, mostly because he didn't want to tackle drawers. He used wood and mdf. I love that the top portion is hardwood so that we had the option to stain where the baskets and sound bar will go. The top is made of 4 beams stained to match the interior.

I painted the outside with white paint that matches our baseboards. The glaze made it look a little more creamy.

The faux drawer fronts were painted, then lightly sanded. . . this process repeated twice and then twice more with the polycrylic. They're as smooth as butter!

Take a look at the pb version, then ours. Can you tell the difference? I can't. This project took so much more patience than we expected. It payed off.

He’s at it again

He’s building again. It’s a beautiful thing. Here’s what he has done so far,

and here’s what we want it to be when we’re done. I say “we’re” because I will do all of the finishing work when it gets to that point. The color won’t be the same.

The Ten Virgins

This past weekend I was part of performance put on by some ladies in my stake. The Ten Virgins – a musical parable. It was one of the best things that I have ever been a part of. I got to play the part of Leora, if you know the musical. The music for my solo was written by Mindy Glendhill.

I could go on and on about it, but the reality of it is that anyone who participated and/or watched it was blessed. The stake building was packed. I felt the spirit every time I practiced throughout the month leading up to the performance, and I hope that all of those in the audience felt the spirit as well when we performed. It made me want to be a better person. . . a more prepared person.

Ferb

Meet Ferb. . . that's short for Furball. . . plus, we all really like Phineas and Ferb. . . so there you have it. We've had him for 2 weeks.

He's really getting comfy here, chewing shoes and barking at yard tools. He was already crate trained, so there have only been a couple of little mishaps. Thank goodness. He sleeps through the night and loves his chewy toys. He's a schnoodle. Part mini Schnauzer, part poodle. He doesn't really shed.

We had a little friend a few years back, but miss Paige wasn't quite ready for it back then. She's much better now.

He loves to chase this garden hoe around when Paige holds it and bark at it.
During the day he's fairly calm, but when that clock strikes 3:15, and the kids come through the door. . . well, that's a different story. They nicknamed him "Jaws" because of it.

Sicko

It's been 3 weeks of sick sick sick around here. That previous post with Tyler footballing like a maniac. . . that's right. . . he was sick as a dog 2 days before that. He's still coughing all night long. Paige has had strep and now the same cold/fever/cough/flu. . whatever it is for 2 days now. Paige was out of school for 2 days 2 weeks ago. Tyler was out 3 days last week, and now Paige has been out for 2 days this week. We did NOTHING on the kids' day off last week.

The gym has been a no go. Morgan had a nasty cold over the weekend too, and now, I can't leave Paige home alone. I need some sort of routine in my life. If I have to watch one more episode of Good Luck Charlie, I'm gonna throw something at someone.

Plus, Tyler has been on a "I hate school" kick. He said to me the other day. . . "Mom, why do I have to go to school? Can't we just be home schooled?"

I'm sure he thinks that home school would be like a sick day. Kid Vs Cat all day long with mom pouring gatorade for him and tucking his blankets around him all day while he lays on the couch.

Rant over.

Today I will remind myself that there is always someone out there in a worse situation than me, and they have to do their job day after day. :)
